"Communication" by Roy Chadwick

The poet was ready to begin his performance.
His latest collection stood in piles on a side table.
They had asked him if he would autograph for them, and at £9.95 for each slim volume he was ready to oblige.
He opened his book, smiled, and was about to recite.
'Can you sign for us?' a voice interrupted.
The poet gestured to the stack of books. 'Yes of course, immediately after the reading,' he promised.
'No, sign for us. You said you would. We're all deaf,' the voice corrected.
