'Hey Babe' by Melissa Rotert

Since she first saw his picture on the gram, Taryn’s been smitten.

He makes her cheeks flush and her palms sweaty.

Her pulse quickens every time another message vibrates from him, reminding her he’s still thinking of her.

Butterflies flutter every time she lays down to rest.

He takes her breath away so suddenly, like a kick to the ribs.

Taryn desperately wants to meet him, to hold his hands, to embrace him, but he isn’t ready for what comes next. It’s been months, but somehow not long enough. Soon.

He feels so close, but just out of reach.

Like a part of her that she can’t touch deep inside.

They set a date to meet in two months’ time.

She is impatient and apprehensive, nervous and eager.

What if she isn’t enough? What if he’s not what she’s envisioned?

Too much to contemplate. Taryn feels lightheaded and sick.

She’s being silly, she tells herself, taking another bite of pickle.

Taryn knows he is the other half of her soul.

As the date comes due, her anxiety grows.

She finds herself cleaning frantically to distract from thinking about the long awaited moment.

Keeping herself busy with decorating, laundry, and meal prep.

Two weeks before the big day and he’s coming early.

The muscle of her uterus flexes in a sudden sharp contraction.

Her water breaks.

“Jack, it’s too soon,” Taryn howls in pain.

He wants to meet his Mommy.

Since he first heard her voice, Jack’s been smitten.
