'For Laughs' by Will Barrington
Barbara produces a radio show, a topical
comedy revue that's been popular ever since she took the reins. When they try
out a new performer - typically an Oxbridge grad, cocky but eager - she videos
the audience during taping. Then she sits all night, smokes through the open
window and replays the video, watching the audience respond to her shiny new
boy. If he doesn't fluff his lines, gets the audience onside, and Barbara's gut
says yes, the last test is a drink in a secluded bar and the question: how far
will you go for laughs?
