Submission Recipe for a Woman/Wife/Mother
Ingredients:
• A bushel of detachment from kitchen chores
• 3 tsp of no regrets
• 1 dollop of resistance
• A dash of forgetfulness
• 2 poetic dreams
• 108 iterations of ‘I don’t give a damn’
• Self-indulgence (to taste)
Instructions:
- Marinate in ‘ignore’— the persistent whistle, the bitter sting of a ‘not-up-to-the-mark’ remark for his favourite dish. Soak in self-indulgence. Let the idea of ‘me’ tenderize before preserving it eternally.
- Sift through unsolicited male advice—less salt, more salt, no salt. Choose rhythm instead. Let your words sway, embrace their cadence.
- Mix in forgetfulness with slow, careful folds. Raise your glass and drink to the meter. Slurp loudly. Push boundaries. Burp. Chew your words. Crunch them apart. Invade ‘his’ territory.
- Bake at unbearable temperatures. Simmer in his mother’s annoying ability to make absolutely everything–her own pickle and chutney. Grinding and bashing and crushing the spices all by herself.
- Serve with no regrets, garnished with 108 iterations of ‘I don’t care a damn’ for her recipes. Choose publication instead.
- Consume daily until published. If side effects include acerbic tongues, just stick cotton buds in your ears.
Warning: Any deviation may result in lifelong imprisonment in a kitchen. What’s worse, your dishes will be served hot with crushed dreams.
