'Lifting the Veil' by ME Kretschmer

With an ashen green limb, you lift a menu – your tastebuds are yearning for something different tonight. This restaurant is acclaimed for the freshness and quality of their food.  You decide to purchase a live meal, a living organism which you are able to select and have freshly prepared in the restaurant kitchen. Your boyfriend smiles at your decision – linking his twelve limbs with yours as you each slide from the chairs onto the spongy floorboards. You briskly make your way to the gate which separates you from your living dinner. A creature greets you with a smile that consumes his face.  “Alright kids, just look into the telescope and when you’ve decided the globe that most makes your mouth water, let me know”. Your boyfriend is quick to decide; he has come here often and tells you that he always chooses from the Andromeda Galaxy. Gazing into space through the telescope, you decide to select from the ‘Milky Way’ as it sounds rather intriguing. Increasing the strength of the scope you choose a blue planet that looks simply delectable. You alert the creature. He lines up the harpoon and laser and tells you to wait at the table. Your dinner shortly arrives. It is labelled “Earth”. As you cut into the crisp outer layer a slight howling can be heard as warm juices ooze out. Although a little watery, your meal is perfect.
