'Burying The Blue Ox' by Kellan Jansen

In Minnesota. A white-breasted nuthatch. Bemidji has the shape of a djinn. Gravestone. Paul Bunyan chanting, “Crybaby! Crybaby!” I should be working. I line a shoebox. White cloth and rosemary. Even through the dirt and night, I hear, “Crybaby! Crybaby!” From beneath the blue ox where I had lain her.
