'-less' by Michael Dickes



The boy stood facing the side of the old gray barn. His mother had been gone all day. His father had been gone two years. He was home alone.
With his back to the sun, he took water in his mouth and thought, “I sure wish Pop was here to see this.”  Blowing the water out forcibly against the backdrop of barn wood, he saw the ripples of color that formed by the beams of the sun in a rainbow, and how they too went away.
